UTC, a well-established educational institution, approached Nolan Interiors with a specific goal: to renovate their Sixth Form space.
As a vital part of the school, the Sixth Form area needed to serve both academic and social purposes, providing an environment that fosters learning, collaboration, and personal development. UTC required a design that would not only modernise the space but also make it more inviting and functional for students.
Initial Problem:
UTC’s existing Sixth Form space was outdated and lacked the vibrant, functional design necessary to meet the needs of its students. The area felt uninspiring, and its layout didn’t encourage the kind of collaboration and independent study that students needed. With a desire to create a dynamic and flexible space that could serve multiple purposes, UTC sought Nolan Interiors’ expertise to bring their vision to life.
Discovery and Approach:
UTC discovered Nolan Interiors through their reputation for delivering successful educational space transformations. After initial consultations, UTC decided that Nolan Interiors was the right partner to handle this project, as they could offer the comprehensive design and delivery needed for such a transformation.
Nolan Interiors developed a tailored solution for UTC’s Sixth Form space, focusing on key areas to improve functionality, aesthetics, and student experience:
The new design incorporated both collaborative and individual study areas, offering flexibility for students. The layout was reimagined to maximise space, creating dedicated zones for group work, independent study, and relaxation.
To support the needs of students in today’s digital learning environment, the design included technology-enabled study areas with easy access to charging points and integrated screens for presentations and group work.
The furniture was carefully selected to provide comfort and durability while reflecting the modern, vibrant atmosphere UTC wanted to create. It included flexible seating options that could be rearranged to suit different needs and purposes.
Vibrant colours, modern finishes, and inspiring wall graphics were incorporated to bring energy and a sense of community to the space, making it a welcoming environment for students to engage in both learning and social activities.
Project Timeline:
The entire project took approximately 12 weeks, from the initial design phase through to completion. Nolan Interiors managed all aspects of the project, ensuring a smooth process that stayed on schedule and within budget. The renovation was completed without disrupting the daily operations of the school, thanks to careful planning and coordination with UTC’s administration.
Collaboration and Communication:
Throughout the 12-week process, Nolan Interiors maintained close communication with UTC, providing regular updates and involving the school’s leadership in key decisions. The new layout and design have maximized the space’s potential, making it feel more open, welcoming, and versatile. Students now have a space they are proud to use, whether for studying, group projects, or simply relaxing between classes.
